Do You Have Questions?

programme content and teaching.

Is the Sano Nutrition Advisor Programme based on nutritional science?

Yes, the nutrition content is evidence-based and each module is supported by full bibliographies enabling you to read the scientific papers supporting the teaching if necessary. The education team invests significant time in reviewing the latest nutrition research ensuring that all content is kept up to date with the latest scientific evidence. Programme content is also reviewed by an independent team of medical practitioners. New scientific discoveries are made every day. Through our teaching methods, we ensure that all our students are able to review, assimilate and apply new research in a practical way to best benefit patients.

Who are the Nutrition Advisor Programme teachers?

The Programme content is written by a team of Nutritional Therapists led by  director Heather Richards. Heather is an award-winning Nutritional Therapist with a drive for excellence in academia and clinical practice.

As well as her role as  director she runs a busy clinical practice ensuring she stays connected with the latest nutritional science, the ‘real world’ and the health challenges being faced by people every day and has the continued experience of how to coach to ensure behaviour change and health improvements. She is also the Lead Nutrition Advisor at the College of Medicine dedicated to driving change in healthcare and empowering people to take control of their health.

Our Education team is second to none with years of experience in student support. They support both our students and graduates. Nutrition assignments are marked and feedback is given by our team of Nutritional Therapists who all hold professional indemnity insurance in their own right. We maintain relationships with our graduates and help support their growing businesses through promotion and collaborations.

What is the format of the Nutrition Advisor Programme?

Programme access is for 12 months and can be started at any time. There is no set timetable, allowing you to fit your studies around your lifestyle and other commitments.

Our curriculum teaches nutritional science based on the latest scientific evidence. Our teaching ensures that you will be able to guide every single patient with their own way of eating that suits them and their individual needs and preferences. You will understand how the body’s functions are impacted by nutrients. You then apply that knowledge to food, to ensure that you can guide each individual in a personalised way.

You can expect to spend on average about 120-150 hours on your studies. You don’t need to be online at specified times except for attending live webinars and group meetings. These are always recorded and available for you to access at any time after the event ensuring that you can fit studying with us into your life.

All the programme content is accessed via your dashboard after logging into the Sano learning portal. Here you will find all written content, animations, videos, quizzes, assignments, recordings of webinars and meetings and downloadable material such as PDFs of the course material and patient handouts.

You can send messages to the course tutors via your dashboard or by email and you will be able to join the private Sano community group for students and graduates.

How do I receive my coursework?

The programme is 100% online which you access by logging into your account. The written coursework is available to download in PDF format from your account area on our website. This is for reference only and does not contain the videos, animations, quizzes, etc which you will need to proceed through online. You may save the written material to the hard drive of your PC, and print out your lessons to study away from your computer, should you need to.

Are lectures live or prerecorded?

Our teaching material comprises a range of written material, videos, animations, webinars, tutorials and meetings. Webinars, tutorials and meetings are live but are always recorded and can be accessed after the event from your online portal. One-to-one live support is available by booking a session with the education team.

assessment.

How will I be assessed, are there any exams?

Assessment is continuous throughout the programme and comprises a variety of different methods. There are online quizzes, peer-assessed role-plays, case studies, practical tasks, self-reflection and assessment, as well as written submissions. The written submissions are also varied covering short answer questions, case studies, client handout creation and longer nutrition research studies that include a practical aspect. We aim to keep the assessments varied, fun and practical whilst also assisting in reinforcing and extending your learning. The assessments are not timed or performed under timed conditions although they will be due to be completed by certain deadlines. The timetable is flexible for you to fit your studies around your other commitments.

We provide as much support as necessary on an individual basis and a one-to-one support call can be booked with the education team at any time it is needed. There is no limit on the amount of support that is available to you during your studies.

Who marks the assignments and what qualifications do they have?

We have a dedicated team of professional markers. All our markers are qualified nutritional therapists that are members of the British Association of Nutritional and Lifestyle Therapy (BANT) and the UK government regulator, the Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC). Our marker’s work is regularly reviewed and assessed to ensure we continually deliver consistency and the highest of standards.

support.

Distance learning can be difficult, what support is available for learners?

We have designed our programmes and courses to be 100% online so that you can fit your studying into your life around other commitments. However, you will not be alone. In addition, you can engage with other students and graduates through the Sano community group.

Do you offer additional training days and/or mentoring?

Our online webinars and events do not form a compulsory part of our training.
However, they are of great benefit to those who choose to attend. We also offer internships and work experience opportunities for our students and graduates. Please email [email protected] to find out more.

sano credentials.

How is Sano’s Nutrition Advisor Programme different from other nutrition courses?

Unlike many other nutrition schools, we do not teach dietary models. We believe in personalised nutrition based on individual dietary preferences, personal circumstances and health concerns.

The theory of nutritional science is important but as vital is its practical application to translate it into an everyday language and practical medium that is understandable, appealing and relevant to the individual, helping drive behaviour change and achieve optimal health. Through our teaching and your practical assignments, you will be in the very best place to aid your patients in achieving their health goals.

When you graduate your learning does not end. New scientific discoveries are made every day. We ensure you have the skills and knowledge to analyse and interpret new research and be able to make it relevant to people’s everyday lives. We also continue to support your learning through our graduate member programme.

As important to us as personalised nutrition is a personal relationship with all of our students and graduates. You will not be a ‘number’ in a large class. We take pride in our individual nurturing and support both to our students and graduates. One-to-one sessions may be booked with our education team at any point throughout your studies. No question is too small and there is no limit on the amount of individual support that you can receive.

All of programme content is written and presented by industry experts, regularly updated and independently reviewed by practising medical professionals.

Is Sano insured as a teaching establishment?

Sano holds full business insurance as a training provider. In addition, our cyber insurance ensures that in the unlikely event of a cyber attack any interruption to the course material and operation of the business will be minimal.

Why study with Sano?

Sano is a lot more than an online education company. The Sano group is committed to driving change and enabling people to take control of their own health through food.

Being part of the Sano group gives us the ability to invest heavily in technology and personnel ensuring continuous improvement and development of the courses and outstanding customer service & student support.

Sano was established in 2015 and specialises in food and nutrition including the provision of food, events and education. Founders Doug & Heather Richards are passionate about helping people live healthier through the food they eat; whether that be through nutrition education or the provision of food. Education includes training nutrition coaches, medical practitioners, integrated healthcare practitioners and those interested in nutrition for their own health through in-depth programmes and courses to lecturing, speaking at conferences, writing blogs, articles, sharing recipes and ideas and even the provision of food.

How does Sano support the message of the importance of food and nutrition outside of the provision of programmes and courses?

We believe that everyone should have access to reliable nutrition and health information based on scientific facts and have the ability to choose the food and lifestyle they enjoy based on their personal needs and preferences. In addition to our courses, we share our knowledge through podcasts, webinars, events, workshops and conferences.

Our founders Heather and Doug Richards are committed to driving change in healthcare and empowering people to take control of their own health and provide support through voluntary roles. Heather is the Nutrition lead for the College of Medicine and Doug Richards food programme lead for the 2019 Food Conference ‘Food on Prescription’.
