"As a nutritional therapist and health coach, this course with Sano is by far the best course I have so far undertaken. The depth of knowledge provided through anatomy and physiology with the practical link to nutrition and the recipe creation is just brilliant to prepare you for working with live clients. I have found my confidence in my subject growing hugely. You are totally supported by the team, but get to work in a flexible way that can fit around the rest of your life."

"I honestly say it is one of the best investments in my personal development. A great all-round course. They have literally thought of everything you would need to know technically, academically, business-wise, and in terms of culinary skills to be competent and feel confident enough to start your business as a Nutritional Coach. My confidence and competence in the kitchen have also increased massively."

"I can chat with clients regarding food with confidence already. I had a timely client, my mother who had a knee replacement. The food aided her recovery. The consultant was astonished at a 78-year-old's recovery rate after 6 weeks. Her new diet was adopted over 4 weeks and she was able to walk upstairs unaided and without her crutch after about 10 days."

“The knowledge and confidence I have gained have been more than I ever anticipated. I am now running cooking clubs for primary school children aged 7-11 teaching them how to cook real food and educating them on why we should use real ingredients and avoid processed food. I truly believe teaching children to cook lays the base for a long healthy relationship with food. I provide recipe cards and bite-sized nuggets of nutrition with each session which benefits the entire family."

About Nutrition Coaches.

What is a Nutrition Coach?

A Nutrition Coach is able to guide in healthy eating and create recipes and meal plans to support different lifestyles and health concerns.

A Nutrition Coach may be directly contacted by clients or clients be referred by other healthcare professionals to provide support in healthy eating. They do not consider the client’s symptoms but instead provide the support and guidance in the health area that is requested.

As well as working on a one to one client basis, Nutrition Coaches may deliver cooking demonstrations, webinars, seminars, group programmes, create menus for restaurants, retailers and corporates, work within corporate wellness or as a writer or blogger. The list is truly endless!

Within our course, we teach Nutrition Coaches how to stay within the limits of their training.

What is the difference between a Nutrition Coach and a Health Coach?

A Nutrition Coach specialises in guiding clients in healthy eating whereas a Health Coach guides in more general lifestyle changes.

What is the difference between a Nutrition Coach and a Nutritionist or Nutritional Therapist?

A Nutrition Coach is not a Nutritionist or a Nutritional Therapist. These professionals have undergone 3 years of training and hundreds of clinical hours practice. They take a full case history and assess symptoms to determine how in their clinical experience the patient is best supported through nutrition. They may then, having determined how they wish their patient to be supported i.e. support cardiovascular health, refer to Nutrition Coaches for recipes and meal plans to be prepared.

Will people take me seriously as a Nutrition Coach?

Studying with Sano will provide you with a respected qualification. We have high standards for a reason, to ensure that you have the best skills and knowledge to help people improve their health and change their lives with food. The quality of your work is what will drive your business and ensure you are a highly respected and successful Nutrition Coach.

With the current global health crisis, nutrition coaches are needed now more than ever to create an integrative healthcare system where nutrition coaches, doctors, nutritionists and other healthcare professionals work together to provide the best healthcare possible.

course content & teaching.

What will I learn in Sano’s Nutrition Coach course?

Over a period of 12 months, we teach you everything you need to set up a reputable nutrition coaching business and begin or further develop your career as a successful, qualified Nutrition Coach.

We teach you nutritional science based on the latest scientific evidence, personalised nutrition, the application of nutrition in practical terms and coaching that collectively ensures you are able to drive behaviour change and health improvements for your clients. In addition, we teach you all aspects of business building, management and marketing.

Your work is performed 100% online and can be accessed from a computer, laptop, tablet or smartphone, but you will not feel alone. We hold regular online student meetings and webinars. You will also receive individualised support for all aspects of your learning, whether that be clarifying understanding, extra support to complete an assignment or adapting your schedule for a holiday. One-to-one sessions are easy to book with our dedicated education team who are there to support you throughout your journey. In addition, you can engage with other students and graduates through the Sano community group.

The course consists of 22 modules covering nutrition, business and coaching which are released in accordance with a pre-determined timetable. You will receive an email weekly letting you know what you should be studying each week to keep on track with any deadlines. You can expect to spend on average about 10-14 hours per week on your coursework. There is adequate flexibility within the timetable to ensure that holidays and other commitments can be met.

What is the curriculum like?

We teach to give you the knowledge and skills to apply personalised nutrition. Every single person is unique and we do not believe in a ‘cookie cutter’ or ‘dietary model’ approach. What is right for one person doesn’t make it right for another. We all have individual preferences, circumstances, budgets, genetics and health concerns.

Our curriculum ensures that you will have the skills and knowledge to provide every single client with their own ‘personalised dietary model’, a way of eating that suits them and their individual needs and preferences. We teach how the body works and how its functions are impacted by nutrients based on scientific evidence. You then learn how to apply that knowledge to food, recipes and meal plans ensuring that you are able to guide each individual in a personalised way.

This knowledge alone however is not enough to help drive behaviour change and improve health. We also teach you how to apply your skills practically, effectively coach and build a business. You have a passion to help people improve their health but of course, you do need to be rewarded for your time, effort and expertise and have a successful business; we teach you everything from setting up, budgeting, managing the business, finding your niche, setting your prices, photography, video and social media as well as building your website and much more.

The nutrition modules are in-depth and there is a lot of information to assimilate. We believe in ‘circular learning’ ensuring reinforcement of information and its practical application. Firstly you will study a nutrition module and reinforce your learning through quizzes and practical assignments. You then progress to business, coaching and cooking school modules where you continue to use your knowledge learnt in the nutrition module by applying it in practical ways. You will then begin the cycle again with the subsequent nutrition, business, coaching and cookery school modules. This format continues throughout the 12 months with each module building and reinforcing knowledge from previous modules.

This ‘circular approach’ keeps your learning experience practical and fun whilst still ensuring you learn the academia of nutritional science giving you the knowledge to be the best Nutrition Coach. The Sano Nutrition Coach course makes learning nutritional science and launching a business as a Nutrition Coach fulfilling and achievable within 12 months.

Are there any practical aspects to the course or is it all online learning?

There are plenty of practical aspects to the course in all of the nutrition, business and coaching modules. Practical tasks include tasks in the kitchen, in buddy-up sessions with other students, in client meetings, as well as photography and video tasks. We keep the tasks varied and fun whilst reinforcing your learning.

Is the Sano Nutrition Coach course based on nutritional science?

Yes, the nutrition content is evidence-based and each module is supported by full bibliographies enabling you to read the scientific papers supporting the teaching if necessary. The education team invests significant time in reviewing the latest nutrition research ensuring that all course content is kept up to date with the latest scientific evidence. Course content is also reviewed by an independent team of medical practitioners. New scientific discoveries are made every day. Through our teaching methods, we ensure that all our students are able to review, assimilate and apply new research in a practical way to best benefit clients.

Who are the course teachers?

The nutrition and coaching content is written by a team of Nutritional Therapists led by course director Heather Richards. Heather is an award-winning Nutritional Therapist with a drive for excellence in academia and clinical practice.

As well as her role as course director she runs a busy clinical practice ensuring she stays connected with the latest nutritional science, the ‘real world’ and the health challenges being faced by people every day and has the continued experience of how to coach to ensure behaviour change and health improvements. She is also the Lead Nutrition Advisor at the College of Medicine dedicated to driving change in healthcare and empowering people to take control of their health.

Doug Richards oversees the business teaching and has over 25 years of experience gained in the corporate world. He worked as CFO at NewDay plc, CEO at CMC Markets, Group COO and Group Finance Director at AWD Holdings and Divisional Board Director at Centrica for 11 years. Doug has established several successful and high-profile new businesses including Goldfish Bank. Originally he started his career in investment banking after qualifying with PricewaterhouseCoopers as a Chartered Accountant and Corporate Treasurer. Heather previous to her career as a Nutritional Therapist worked as a Chartered Accountant for 10 years with PriceWaterhouse Coopers.

Our Education team is second to none with years of experience in student support. They support both our students and graduates. Nutrition assignments are marked and feedback is given by our team of Nutritional Therapists who all hold professional indemnity insurance in their own right. We maintain relationships with our graduates and help support their growing businesses through promotion and collaborations.

How is Sano’s course different from other nutrition or health coaching courses?

Unlike many other nutrition schools, we do not teach dietary models. We believe in personalised nutrition based on individual dietary preferences, personal circumstances and health concerns. Our curriculum and teaching approach instead enable our Nutrition Coach graduates to create individual dietary approaches, a personalised approach.

The theory of nutritional science is important but as vital is its practical application to translate it into an everyday language and practical medium that is understandable, appealing and relevant to the individual, helping drive behaviour change and achieve optimal health. Through our teaching and your practical assignments, you will be in the very best place to aid your clients in achieving their health goals.

When you graduate your learning does not end. New scientific discoveries are made every day. We ensure you have the skills and knowledge to analyse and interpret new research and be able to make it relevant to people’s everyday lives. We also continue to support your learning and business development through our graduate member programme.

As important to us as personalised nutrition is a personal relationship with all of our students and graduates. You will not be a ‘number’ in a large class. We take pride in our individual nurturing and support both to our students and graduates. One-to-one sessions may be booked with our education team at any point throughout your studies. No question is too small and there is no limit on the amount of individual support that you can receive.

All of our course content is written and presented by industry experts, regularly updated and independently reviewed by practising medical professionals.

Is Sano insured as a teaching establishment?

Sano holds full business insurance as a training provider. In addition, our cyber insurance ensures that in the unlikely event of a cyber attack any interruption to the course material and operation of the business will be minimal.

Why study with Sano when there are other nutrition coaching programmes available much cheaper?

Sano is a lot more than an online education company. The Sano group is committed to driving change and enabling people to take control of their own health through food.

Being part of the Sano group gives us the ability to invest heavily in technology and personnel ensuring continuous improvement and development of the courses and outstanding customer service & student support.

Sano was established in 2015 and specialises in food and nutrition including the provision of food, events and education. Founders Doug & Heather Richards are passionate about helping people live healthier through the food they eat; whether that be through nutrition education or the provision of food. Education includes training nutrition coaches, medical practitioners, integrated healthcare practitioners and those interested in nutrition for their own health through in-depth courses to lecturing, speaking at conferences, writing blogs, articles, sharing recipes and ideas and even the provision of food.

Our nutrition coaching course is a 12-month comprehensive programme providing you with all the skills to set up a reputable nutrition coaching business and begin or further develop your career as a successful, qualified Nutrition Coach. We believe that our comprehensive approach is well worth the investment. You will have the skills for life to ensure you stay abreast of the latest nutritional science and adapt your approach as necessary. New scientific discoveries are made every day and it is vital to be able to review, assimilate and apply new research in a practical way to best benefit your clients.

There are plenty of nutrition coaching courses on the market that are much cheaper and can be completed in a few weeks or months. However, to ensure the very best health outcomes for your clients and hence build a successful nutrition coaching business in-depth knowledge of nutrition, its practical application to food, coaching and business skills are essential and that is what we provide!

How does Sano support the message of the importance of food and nutrition outside of the provision of courses?

We believe that everyone should have access to reliable nutrition and health information based on scientific facts and have the ability to choose the food and lifestyle they enjoy based on their personal needs and preferences. In addition to our courses, we share our knowledge through podcasts, webinars, events, workshops and conferences.

Our founders Heather and Doug Richards are committed to driving change in healthcare and empowering people to take control of their own health and provide support through voluntary roles. Heather is the Nutrition lead for the College of Medicine and Doug Richards food programme lead for the 2019 Food Conference ‘Food on Prescription’.

What if unexpected circumstances occur during my course and I am unable to complete it within the year?

There is enough flexibility within the course timetable to enable you to complete your studies within 12 months and fit studying around your other commitments. We encourage you and will provide all the support necessary to help you graduate within the year whatever the circumstances. You will be studying the course to build a successful career in nutrition coaching and we want to help you achieve that goal sooner rather than later.

However sometimes the unexpected does happen and if for any reason you cannot complete the course within the year you are able to extend your study period for an additional 12 months. This is available at £750 for a 12-month extension and can be paid interest-free on a monthly basis. During this extension period, you will have full access to all the course materials and updates, webinars, tutorials, meetings, our dedicated assignment portal, detailed feedback from Nutritional Therapists on your written nutrition assignments and one-to-one support from the education team.
